Permit fitGreat leather. I love the feel of the footbed. Construction is top notch leather with great foot cushioning. I am a larger guy and need good support. Love these shoes. My only complaint is that the 10.5 size I normally wear were too big in every way. My heel would slip out and they seemed particularly wide even in the M width. I reordered the size 10, or 44 European, and they are like heaven on my feet. These are in my opinion the best boat shoe made that I have found. I have tried most of them over the years. I tried a pair of Sperry Gold Cup recently but the leather was too soft on the inside to the point my feet would stick to them when your foot would sweat. The MEPHISTO Hurrikan feel awesome. Really awesome. I like them so much I literally look forward to putting them on in the morning. In this time of Covid-19, I can’t wait to put on my khaki shorts and slip these amazing shoes on in the morning and get to work. I commute from my bedroom to my dining room table to start my workday and get a good cup of Joe and ......”Life is Good”!I wear a pair of Mephisto Hurrikans that were made in Portugal. They are from many years ago and came in the brown Mephisto box. The inside lining and insoles are soft, like a bison-type leather and the color is a contrasting light tan. The insoles have a comfortable padding and the tongue is thick and padded. The collar of the shoe is slightly padded. They feel great. The laces look good and have a good shape to them.I just bought the same Mephisto Hurrikans a half size up, from amazon. Suprisingly, these were also made in Portugal. They came in no box, but I would assume that they are from a current batch of Mephistos, probably the current greyish box with the dark blue lid. The inside lining and insoles have an ok leather, but not the soft velvety feeling leather like in the older version. No padding at all around the collar of the shoe. The color of the inside shoe lining is similar to the hazelnut outside color of the shoe. The insoles didn't have the padding like my older ones have, instead the inside of the shoe is hard and thin; similar to a regular $75 boat shoe. That softness that they are known for was not there. The tongue was thin, the leather was like doubled, but with no padding in between. The laces are a lower grade leather or they may have just been really dry and twisted. Mephistos are known to run a half size bigger, but these were more like a full size bigger plus with the flimsy interior build, these felt really big. Online pictures of Mephisto Hurrikans look sick, but these looked dumpy. I was thinking to take pictures showing the differences between the older and newer pairs, but I just wanted to return them quickly instead. Sorry. These were a total bummer and no way in the world should anyone pay $350 for the quality of the ones I received. These were for my husband. He didn't like the dark color so refused to try them on, therefore I can't give a rating. After many years of wearing my original pair it was time to freshen up with a new pair. My original pair are still wearable and look good with a fresh coat of polish. They are exceptionally well made and built to last. They look great with jeans. These appear to be extremely well made, as far as material and finish are concerned. I tried three different sizes.....from 10 1/2, down to 9 1/2. My usual size is 10 1/2. Each pair of these was inordinately large, and even the smallest wouldn't stay on my foot. Mephisto, you have a problem. Also, note that the insole is not removable--it is fixed in place.Excellent quality. Very pleased with these and I’ve owned many different brands of “boat shoes”. The lining and stitching are well done and they are very comfortable. The size is larger than “usual”. Since shoes have been coming from China and Asia, a 10-1/2 became an 11. These are like the shoes before - a 10-1/2 is a 10-1/2 at least for me. Can’t say how long they will last but at least the can be rebuilt by Mephisto according to what I read. The price is over the top though. They are made of nice leather but they aren’t shell cordovan.... These should be a $250 pair of shoes not $350 but I paid it!Update 3/22: well, I have to reduce my rating on these because the tanning of the leather is more like spray tanning - superficial. After a relatively short time of wearing these, the leather’s color has worn off at the toe and around the base of the shoe where the sole has worn off the color. My cheap Sperry’s Have done this too but it took 4 years. Not impressed with the durability finish of the leather - we’re they supposed to be dress shoes?Update 9/2018I sent them back for reconditioning and Mephisto’s authorized agent did so and returned them. I have to say, the leather is terrible. They were “spray tanned” again and within three weeks of light use, they look terrible again. These shoes have been one of the most disappointing $300 purchases I’ve made EVER! Just got another pair of Timberland 2 eye boat shoes for $80 - never again Mephisto.I am about to send my original pair from 2004 for their second renewing replacing the sole but decided I should get a new pair as well. They have been my favorite shoes since I bought the first and I wear them nearly every day. They become very comfortable after a week or two of wearing and then you never want to wear another pair of shoes.Excellent produit. C'est ma deuxième paire. C'est cher, mais ça en vaut la peine. This model is wider than others I own of the same brand. Same size. Over priced compared to my other Mephisto shoes
